An international tournament atmosphere on Lake Garda
The SOCCACUP Lago di Garda combines the atmosphere of an international tournament with a unique setting. Forty-five teams from six nations gathered in Sirmione, right on the shores of Lake Garda, to compete in the U10/U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15 age groups. Matches were played at the Stadio Rovizza across a total of four pitches – two natural grass and two artificial turf pitches provided ideal conditions for an intense tournament weekend.
The event kicked off on Friday with the teams’ arrival. After settling into their accommodation, the programme began with some free time, before the official opening ceremony took place at the Stadio Rovizza in the evening. There, all the teams were introduced individually and had their first chance to present themselves to the spectators and travelling fans – an atmospheric start to the tournament.
The sporting competition began on the second day. After breakfast, the preliminary and group matches got underway, spread throughout the day. Play was interrupted by a joint lunch break right at the sports complex. In the afternoon, the matches continued, before the rest of the day was again at the teams’ disposal – a successful mix of competition and time spent together off the pitch.
The third day was all about the decisive matches. After breakfast, the teams went into the final and placement matches. Here too, a lunch break at the tournament grounds punctuated the schedule, before the final matches and finals were played in the afternoon. Immediately following the finals, the tournament winners in each age group were crowned. The evening once again offered opportunities for group activities and a relaxed end to the day with the team.
On the fourth day, the SOCCACUP Lago di Garda came to a close with breakfast followed by check-out. Here, the teams still had the opportunity to extend their stay and spend a few more hours at Lake Garda before heading back home.
